Let’s Get Animated

Between last night’s Paley Fest panel for THE SIMPSONS, everything I’ve heard about MEET THE ROBINSONS and the concept art you see above – which is the first glimpse of Insectasaurus from Dreamworks’ perfectly titled MONSTERS VS. ALIENS – I’m seriously considering throwing everything I’ve got at a future in animation. Granted, the only drawing I’m good at is withdrawing (and judging by my bank balance, I might even be considered a master) but I’m noticing a somewhat unsettling lack of time travel, dinosaurs, jetpacks, monsters, aliens, hover-cars and science projects run amok in live-action fare. And if you argue that these critical elements of storytelling are, in fact, present in movies where the stars aren’t a mile-long string of ones and zeroes, I challenge you to find a film where they’re all together.

And that’s why I’m serious about writing my next script as an animated project. I have a story in mind couldn’t be realized any other way, and while it has only one of those critical elements I listed, it’s guaranteed fun. Now I just have to finish the script that’s on my desktop now (I see a light at the end of that tunnel) and dream up some stuff as awesome as that guy jumping off his boat. I mean, seriously – how great is that?
