Fire up your coffee maker and grab some Cokes from the fridge – BLAK COFFEE is now available for viewing in the TV Spots section of the site! Starring the beautiful Jeanine Hass as a sleepy young woman who takes her coffee BlãK, this 30-second spec spot – the first one I’ve directed on 35mm – stands as a terrific collaboration between a lot of frighteningly talented people. While special thanks go out to Andrew Waruszewski, who provided both the camera and the skills to use it, props also go out to Dave Thomas, Todd Pritchet and Joel Schroeder for giving him a camera crew that will be remembered in legend for generations to come. Colorist Juan Rivera did the impossible by making the footage look even better, providing Matthew Gilna with some great material the cutting room, where his deft hands crafted a perfect pace and tone for the spot in spite of my repeatedly broken promise to provide him with some Coke BlãK.
Taking our picture locked cut – and some time away from doing the title sequence for SAW 3 – Blaise Hossain created a stunning motion graphics product shot using little more than graphics pilfered from the official website and, I suspect, black (BlãK?) magic. The one and only Bear McCreary joined the team shortly thereafter, topping himself with yet another musical tour de force that’s as bubbly and energetic as the product we’re advertising. Michael Frederick, another SILVER BULLET alum, mixed the score, sound effects and smooth, sultry pipes of V.O. artist Stephanie Riggio, to give us a finished soundscape that’s rich, textured and tasteful – it’s like Coke BlãK for your ears, I tells ya. And overseeing it all was über-producer Christina Ferguson, the only person I know who could keep all these moving parts in working order while leading the secret double-life of a costumed vigilante.
So thanks again to anyone and everyone who was involved with the spot for putting in 110% from beginning to end. It was fantastic working with all of you and I can’t wait to do it again. In the meantime, head on over to the TV Spots section of the site to grab yourself some BLAK COFFEE!
